Amautiq pictures

Here are two different amautiq styles. Mine (purple) has a large rounded hood and tails while my friend Gwen's has a narrower pointed hood and no tails. My daughter is 7 months old and Gwen's son is 10 months old.

My husband took the following pictures inside our house (not as nice as the outside pics) to higlight how the amautiq is sewn and worn.

The weight of the baby is distributed across the collarbone, down the sternum and around your ribs to underneath the child's feet. My daughter, Iona, is in the jacket itself and NOT the hood. The hood gets pulled up over both of us. Iona is also in a bunting bag, which makes it easier to pull smaller babies in and out. Gwen's son no longer uses a bunting bag.

The space between Iona and my back is open and so I normally wear a turtleneck or a scarf. Of course when it is really cold I just pull the hood up. When Iona is taller she'll be able to peer over my shoulder as we walk (like Gwen's son).

Here we are with the hood pulled up. Iona is standing/squatting the parka. You can see the outline of her body and head. There are spaces on the sides for toddlers to sit in the parka with their legs on wrapped around your waist.

Here I am taking Iona out (easier than putting her in!). You bend over and basically pull the child out, over your head. I have actually done this while she was asleep and despite being flipped upside down she remained asleep!
